Help Haba na Haba secure a home
My dream as a child was to establish a creative arts center for young poor peolple. in the last 10 years with assistance from friends and donors, I have managed to build a programme with over 500 young artists in one of the largest slums in kenya, Mathare.
Haba na Haba has become the new home for art expression in this area and many young people have found a home to build their talent.

All You Need is The Sound of Love
Music is a big part of my life and I love singing and dancing. No matter how embarrasing I look I will sing or dance when I feel it coming on. I am inspired to bring joy to those who need it the most with the sound of song and dance. I believe anyone can be happy with the music of love.

I'm passionate about people and the way we treat one another. I want people to be aware of the way they treat people in their own community. We can ofen see mistreatment when it is portrayed yet we don't notice what we do everyday.

Every little bit counts
Over the past year, I have been passionate about getting a story heard. I've just recently graduated from College and I'm a film student. In my last year at school, I pitched to have a documentary filmed, following the story of my Opa (Grandfather), Cor Hirdes.
My Opa, who is a retired machinist and biomedical engineer, several years ago started working with an organization called, "Friends of Mkar". This organization works over at Mkar Hospital located in Benue State, Nigeria, Africa. A team full of volunteers all with different medical backgrounds. After years of working with substandard, faulty equipment the team decided they needed a change, they just weren't sure how it was going to be possible.
After hearing a speech at a church service while my Opa was vacationing in Florida, he heard their call for help and decided to respond, hoping he could make a change in someone's life in the last years of his own. He refurbished an anesthetic machine from spare parts of other machines, and sent it across the ocean in a container which he raised the funds for with help from his local church and other sponsors. Before this machine was sent over, it was impossible to do major surgeries, if not very dangerous... The one machine that he rebuilt and sent over to this day, has done over 1200 major successful surgeries. He has gone over every year since 1999 - 2005, recently he has been unable to go as his health has not been so great. In the time he went, he brought medical eqipment ranging from a brand new X-ray machine (which was 1/2 donated and 1/2 he raised the money for) to incubators to surgical tables to sheets for beds.
These things have not only helped one hospital but I believe within that region it has helped 5 hospitals. Also while he was there he started a plan to build a chicken coup at the orphanage, raised the money and had it built so they could have an egg everyday.
He has also sent supplies and money to Ecuador and Haiti as well. While he has not done all of this on his own, he has done most of it, with the only intention of trying to make a change for the better in someone else's life. Obviously, his help and dedication has helped hundreds if not thousands of people.
In one of his most recent trips over, him and the other volunteers were named honorary cheifs of the local tribe, and the X-ray department of the hospital was named after my Opa.
My Opa had planned to make another trip this coming July as news from the doctors over there right now is that a storm has severly left Mkar Hospital crippled. The roof of the pharmacy was torn off from winds, leaving all the medicine lost in the rain. Also, the generator that my Opa has sent to the hospital was also damaged in the storm leaving the hospital with little if not any power at all.
You ask what I'm inspired to do and I think it's pretty simple, I want to make a documentary to tell my Opa's story and to make a change in someone's life. Whether it's a change to want to help, change to the way you think or feel, anything.

From the Heart
Im passionate about helping people, from children to teens of my own age - to the seniors. I believe everyone deserves and has the right to be helped. and to have the support to start over, and be given the chance to stand tall again.

Education Celebration
I am primarily passionate about building teaching institutions for small communities of the third world. This passion was instigated by the youth in my hometown of Cambridge, Ontario. I see children throwing away their educational futures to drugs and other addictions. They are not taking advantage of how blessed they are to have a stable system of education. They are being provided with a future -the only thing is, we need the effort from both the student and the teacher.

The Soccer Dream
i want to help homeless and poor kids in Mexico to have more fun and be inspired to do something. Also I want them to have a sense of community and personal accomplishment. I want to start community soccer teams all around Mexico city, get pitches, and jerseys, so on... as it grows, get some tournaments going between the communities, and when it grows EVEN further, expand it to other cities, until it reaches a national level.

Humanity United
I am currently enrolled in graduate studies in Political Science. I have my BA (Hons) in Law and Justice and Political Science. Ultimately, my goal is to teach and publish, while simultaneously attempting to end the global injustices we face. These injustices exist all over the world; in far off places and in our own backyards. What is more, these problems are solvable if we just unite and work towards change. In my opinion if you can get through to one person, if you can help one person, you've already started the chain of change that can have a global impact. There is no reason for human beings, our brothers and sisters on earth, to be starving, homeless, sick and disadvantaged when there is so much wealth and disposable wealth that can be applied to improving their situations. As well, I enjoy looking at it from the perspective - give a man a fish you can feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you can feed him for a lifetime. It's time to help others to help themselves providing a sustainable way of living that will allow us to progress into the future as a global community.

I want to have a safe environment and growing environment. The best friend a person could have
Im passionate about animals because my dog is the only thing that stayed right by myside. It didnt matter if we were sleeping in a alley, garage or a bed. He was right there beside me. My dog (Tayo) inspired me to have my own animal shelter. Its not really gonna be a shelter. Its more going to be like a big foster home. I dont think its fair to be locked up in cages all the time, who really likes to be caged up right?

Raise awareness in the youth of America that has been blessed with opportunity. Encourage them to step up and utilize whatever tools they have been blessed with to make a change. A change in themselves. A change in their community. A change in the world. We are all one and the recognition and acceptance of that is our first step to enlightenment, to heaven, to nirvana, to home. We all need to open our eyes and accept the responsibility we have to ourselves and the world in using our talents not for our own gain, but for OUR gain. As a community. As a world. As one.

There are more ideas on earth than intellectuals imagine. And these ideas are more active, stronger, more resistant, more passionate than "politicians" think. We have to be there at the birth of ideas, the bursting outward of their force: not in books expressing them, but in events manifesting this force, in struggles carried on around ideas, for or against them. Ideas do not rule the world. But it is because the world has ideas... that it is not passively ruled by those who are its leaders or those who would like to teach it, once and for all, what it must think.

CLEAN WATER
Even though our environment is so highly polluted I think it's important for communities across the world to have access to water treatment I think it's ridiculous for children to be dying everyday because of poor water conditions. Something needs to be done, we all deserve clean water, it's definitely a basic need, the one thing no one can live without!

Passion
I am passionate about helping not only the children but the adults of Africa and Southern Asia that have been plauged by the AIDS/HIV epidemic and help them realize that those two words are not taboo to anyone anywhere. This disease is alive and faces people from all over the world not just in their communities. I want to be able to helo break the barriers that this stigmatization has brought about and help them relaize that AIDS/HIV can and may affect them without knowing it and that there are drugs and education out there that can help.

Meaningful work
Currently I am actively looking for a new job within an organization whose members share my views and principles about how to improve the conditions in which the world lives.
So far I have taken all the steps to define clearly what is it that I want to do, what type of organization/company, with what type of people and in what working conditions (that is, the visionary part of the process). Also practical things like writing a CV, etc

Memetic's Mind...
I am passionate about Hiphop Culture and cities. For the past few years I've been working on an undergrad thesis about the way in which the city is a cultural producer - Hiphop culture as a product of urban policy and form, and then looking at the way in which Hiphop as an organic urban product has affected global urban semiotics as the world is embarking on its first global urban era.
I also write for the Ottawa Xpress and DJ. On Saturday nights between 8 and 10 i do a radio show on the Mighty 93.1 CKCU called BEET.ROOTS Radio where we break new records and run strictly the overlooked gems of Hiphop, R&B, and Soul music without borders, co-hosted by my co-defendant Mr. Drifter. On the third Friday of the Month I host a wild-ass party called Time Kode which goes down at the Eri Café (http://www.timekode.com/)

Kila Kitu Clothing
Right now - its about creating clothing here in Kenya which really rocks. We make cowboy shirts from recycled fabrics and clothing which made its way here from the West (remember those old clothes you didnt want?). We then remix and reuse old garments and make em fresh again. It's really fun, it creates some jobs and we would like to see our company "Kila Kitu Clothing" (www.kilakituclothing.com) start to make a difference in cleaning up the environment here in our community...

My greatest loves have always been travel, learning about other cultures, ecology, indigenous rights and knowledge, and adventure. I want to inspire others to take an interest in the world - get out and explore! Open your mind up to all the beauty, diversity and adventure out there! Above all, I want to encourage people to truly listen. Through TE KORU, I hope to encourage kids to get involved in a dialog with others - discuss these global issues and to get out and CREATE their future....through open communication, sustainability, and compassion.

Founder & Executive Director of freeDimensional
freeDimensional engages in a particular style of networking that builds on existing resources in the art, media and entertainment sectors in order to engage and financially underwrite direct actions necessary to help culture workers-in-distress and use their stories to illustrate critical, contemporary issues. Art and creativity are often commodified without acknowledgment of the social issues they represent, and thus the relation between culture and society erodes. freeDimensional seeks to strengthen this relation by taking practical steps to ensure individual safety, raise awareness and instigate change.

inspiration meets action...
I am passionate about finding away to help people help themselves. I think it's great to help people, but it's much more rewarding to watch someone else become independent and productive.

I am inspired by the opportunities that can be created for our children. And am very inspired by the patience, knowledge wealth and courage of seniors and am intrigued by ideas that encourage these groups to connect and exchange ideas and skills.
