Program Summary Worldview Impact is a Social Enterprise based in London that is working on mitigating climate change by creating sustainable livelihoods for the poor while reducing poverty to improve their living conditions in the developing world. The aim of the company is to invest in green business opportunities at the community level starting in seven countries in Asia, namely Sri Lanka, India, Bhutan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Worldview Impact has an objective to create an enabling environment for local people to actively participate in an array of climate change mitigation and adaptation projects such as carbon off setting through planting rubber trees and other relevant activities, complimented by renewable energy technologies to support organic agriculture, fisheries and forestry on a sustainable level. Program Details There is only one sustainable solution to global warming: We, who consume more than our equal share of the world's non-renewable resources, must reduce consumption and live a simpler,healthier life. We can start with the smallest step, by reducing our unhealthy spending with at least one dollar per day. This minimal amount, which is hardly notable to us, represents a cycle of events with dynamic effect. One dollar a day is less than the average income of more than 1 billion people in the world. This tiny reduction in our daily spending can improve the living standard of the disadvantaged, in combination with environmental protection. Our solution is simple: We plant trees. There are vast unused areas of land in many developing countries, which is ideally suitable for tree planting to mitigate climate gases, while providing increased income to the poorest section of the population. Worldview Impact's team of experts have concluded that in particular environments, the most effective plants in mitigating green house gases are rubber trees. They will provide sustainable livelihood to thousands of people, as well as effective environmental improvement. By providing 1 dollar a day to the project, you will in 300 days (or faster if you pay more) cover the cost of planting 10 rubber trees with follow up activities to secure maturity of the trees. This mitigation of 10 ton C02E of green house gases, equivalent to one year's carbon footprint of an average American or European citizen. You can choose how many yearly carbon footprints you want to offset, with USD 300 per certificate. The project will be implemented in a sustainable manner with replanting after 25 years of the tree's productive cycle. Your contribution of USD 300 will yield USD 600 in income from rubber tapping during the life span of your 10 trees, based on 2008 prices. This will benefit local communities and secure professional follow up at every level of the project. We will provide you with a carbon offset certificate for your contribution, and a report on the progress of the project's impact on poverty reduction in the area.
